Abstract

A new flavone glycoside m.f. C30H36O15, m.p. 252–253°C, [M]+ 636 (EIMS) was isolated from the acetone soluble fraction of the concentrated 95% ethanolic extract of the seeds of Bauhinia variegata (Linn). It was identified as 5-hydroxy7,3′,4′,5′-tetra-methoxyflavone 5-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-α-L-rhamnopyranoside (1) by various colour reactions, chemical degradations and spectral techniques.
