Abstract

AbstractTreatment of 2,2′‐bis(bromomethyl)biphenyl with potassium tellurocyanate in dry DMSO gave 1,7‐dihydro‐1H‐dibenzo[c,e]tellurepin (1) in 60% yield as an unexpected product. The following new derivatives of 1 have been prepared: C14H12TeCl2 (2), C14H12TeBr2 (3), C14H12Tel2 (4), C14H12Te(CH3)I (5) and C14H12Te(C2H5)I (6).Mononuclear and dinuclear palladium complexes [i.e. (C14H12)2PdCl2 (7) and [(C14H12Te)PdCl2]2 (8)] were prepared by the reaction of 1 with PdCl2(PhCN)2 and Na2PdCl4, respectively. Reaction of RhCl3 · 3H2O with an excess of 1 gave the monomeric Rh(I) complex, (C14H12Te)3RhCl (9). Compound 1 readily forms a 1: 1 charge‐transfer complex with TCNE while it reduces the carbonyl groups in DDQ and TCQ to hydroxyl groups. Conductivity, UV‐Vis, IR and 1H‐ and 13C‐NMR data for the new compounds are presented and discussed.
