Abstract

This work focuses on the design and simulation of an on-board modified dual input converter topology for electric vehicles that use both solar and grid power acting one at a time. The key challenges in the field of electric vehicles are cost, charger size, and charging time reduction. As a result, a multifunctional modified dual input converter has been designed and developed that can operate in all modes required for an electric vehicle, including Grid-to-Vehicle (G2V) charging, Solar PV-to-Vehicle (PV2V) charging, Motoring and Regenerative Braking. In charging mode (G2V/ PV2V), the presented system operates as an isolated secondary ended primary inductance converter. In Motoring and Regenerative Braking modes, it operates as a boost converter and a buck converter, respectively. The simulation results validate the performance in different modes of operation. A motor drive is also used for the modelling of motoring and regenerative braking modes.
