Abstract
In this paper, energy harvestation and its effective utilization by regenerative braking and motoring modes of operation of a PMBLDC drive system with varying load is discussed. PMBLDC drive is a permanent magnet machine, widely used because of their high power density and efficiency; so it is proposed in both motoring and regenerative modes of operation. In motoring mode, drive consumes electrical energy from source for converting the electrical energy into suitable mechanical energy. But in a regenerative mode, drive produces electricity for charging the source from a mechanical load. The regenerative mode of operation improves the overall efficiency of the drive system. The performance of a PMBLDC drive with these modes are analyzed using MATLAB/ Simulink software and the hardware implemented with supporting simulations in the proteus 8.0 software.
