Abstract

Traffic congestion in urban areas and ensuing traffic noise is major contributor to environmental concern and a source of increasing level on discomfort. This paper describes the integration of a detailed traffic microsimulation model with an accurate and commonly used model of noise dispersion. This integration enables more accurate estimation of traffic noise in changing situations in urban areas, like intersections. The comprehensive modeling system can be used in evaluating traffic volumes, emissions, atmospheric dispersion, and noise in cities.
