Abstract

A low-noise current-sensitive preamplifier VIEC has been developed based on the circuitry of a charge-sensitive preamplifier. In this paper, the dynamic ranges of the VIEC and a conventional current-sensitive preamplifier are measured and compared. A method to increase the dynamic range of the VIEC is described. Using the VIEC with enhanced dynamic range, a computed tomography measurement is performed for a strongly attenuating phantom comprising a 10-cm-diameter acrylic cylinder with a 3-cm-diameter iron rod in the center. • Low noise current preamplifier VIEC showed wide dynamic range. • Further enlargement of the dynamic range of the VIEC is proposed and demonstrated. • Computed tomography image and profile of a strongly attenuating phantom are shown.
