A look ahead brings appreciation of the past

Abstract

Each year, the SEG Annual Meeting hosts a recurring Special Session entitled “Recent Advances and the Road Ahead.” As the title would suggest, this special session provides an opportunity for members of the geosciences community to come together and look back over the past months, celebrating new models, research, inventions, and discoveries that have come about that year. It also directs attendees forward with an optimistic look at exciting things to come. Appropriately taking a cue from SEG Denver 2014, whose doors closed not even a week previous to the writing of this article, this writer will now initiate a journey of both reminiscence and anticipation with regard to some of the online initiatives of SEG.
