Abstract

Drawing on newspaper, printed, and archival sources as well as literature, the paper discusses several historical aspects of the cadastral municipality of Bodrež. It constitutes a local historical overview of a small area on the western edge of the Banjšice Plateau, with settlement concentrated on the village of Bodrež and the nearby hamlet of Loga. In the first part, the paper focuses on providing the geographical description of the area, followed by chapters on the demographic features, the development of settlements, and the economy, with the focus on the nineteenth and early twentieth century. The final section centres on the First World War, the villagers’ refugee experience as well as the destruction and devastation of the village itself.
