Abstract

A Housing Blitzkrieg Which Failed surveys the consequences of a series of Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decisions recognizing a warranty of habitability for residential tenancies, and thereby expanding the scope of responsibilities landlords have in residential property leases. In case study format, the author details the economic growth of an increasingly diverse city and the social and legal consequences of these changes. The discouraging gap is highlighted between socially responsible ideas and the enforcement of a new law and the author considers this a shortcoming on many levels.
