Abstract

Material selection plays a vital role in process of mechanical and structural design. Various Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques have been employed to ease the material selection process. In presented work, Fuzzy AHP and M − TOPSIS based approach has been employed to select composite material on the basis of various material properties for mechanical and structural applications. Different mechanical properties such as: flexural and impact strength, hardness, density, tensile strength along with wear resistance have been selected to facilitate selection of alternate composite as per the requirements. F-AHP and M–TOPSIS has been used for calculating the weights of mechanical properties and for ranking of different alternate composite materials respectively.
