Abstract

The selection of materials is one of the most difficult phases for the design and development of any structural component. In this work, the AHP-MOORA method which is a hybrid MCDM approach used to select the materials for good wear resistance and structural applications point of view. The selection processes is carried by considering the physical, mechanical and wear properties of the composite materials such as density, hardness, tensile strength, flexural strength, impact strength, and specific wear rate. In the first stage, the AHP method is used to obtain the weights for the different properties and in the second stage, the MOORA method is used through (a) the ratio system (b) multiplicative and (c) the reference point approach to provide the ranking of materials. Finally, the rankings obtained by the methods are compared and it is also observed that these methods are very simple to understand, easy to implement for assigning rankings to the material alternatives.
