Abstract

Densitometers which measure the photographic densities of X-ray images are widely used to derive quantitative information in various fields. It has been found that the use of inexpensive fibre-optic probes allows simplification in the design of high resolution densitometers. A working model able to resolve areas of the order of 1 mm2 was constructed. A simple test of its sensitivity and resolution was made by measuring the transmission through the radiograph of an aluminium step wedge.
