Abstract

A novel dual-band supershaped ring slotted patch antenna for wireless local area network systems was studied. Specifically, on the main elliptical patch two slots, both mathematically defined by the supershape formula, are introduced. Also, an elliptical dielectric substrate placed on a ground plane and a coaxial feeding probe are the basic structural elements of this antenna. The frequency bands 2.4/5 GHz are fully covered, so the antenna is suitable for the most widely used IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n standards. Through the control of the annular slot width we can tune the resonances and properly adjust the frequency ratio. Furthermore, the antenna exhibits a frequency selective behaviour and a high quality factor which is critical for the radiation efficiency.
