Abstract

A large cryocondensation pump for an intense atomic hydrogen beam was designed, fabricated, and tested; its compact design allowed a total copper cryopanel area of about 15 m 2. The cryopanels operated at about 2.6 K. For an atomic hydrogen beam of up to 3.2 × 10 18 atoms s −1, the measured pumping speed was about 1.2 × 10 7 l s −1, which is 4.2 × 10 26 atoms Torr −1 s −1.
