Abstract

The local correlation-based transition model is modified and implemented in the unstructured CFD solver U 2 NCLE, and coupled with both one-equation Spalart-Allmaras (SA) model and two-equation Shear Stress Transport (SST) turbulence model. Several benchmark validations on the flat plate and 2D airfoils are performed and compared with the experimental data. The skin friction profiles predicted by the transition model coupled with both SA and SST turbulence models indicate that the transition phenomenon is captured reasonably well, including the onset location and the length of transition. In addition, two realistic engineering applications Sikorsky S-76 and Bell-Boeing JVX rotors in hover are investigated and validated with the experimental test data using the turbulent flow simulation methods in current work.
