Abstract

This article aims to shed light on the political background and consequences of the attempted assassination of the President of the Yugoslav Government, Milan Stojadinović, by MP Damjan Arnautović. Special attention will be devoted to the influence that this event had on the further fate and development of the Yugoslav National Party. Arnautović’s act represented the culmination of several months of conflicts and behind-the-scenes battles tha accompanied the liquidation of the monarchical dictatorship regime and the strengthening of the new ruling group gathered around the Yugoslav Radical Union. The paper shows both sides of this political reckoning and gives enough space to future researchers, who may shed a different light on the event of 6 March 1936.
