Abstract

Azetidines have attracted significant attention in synthetic organic chemistry due to the important biological activities of 4-membered N-heterocyclic compounds. They are the fundamental skeleton of several antibiotics, probiotics, glycosidase inhibitors, and alkaloids. Therefore various methods have been reported for the formation of azetidine nucleus. This chapter describes the formation of 4-membered ring systems using imines and chloroacetyl chloride.
