Abstract

Ultrasonic waves have many applications in the field of health. The most important applications are the diagnosis and treatment of the cancer, drug delivery, as well as cell division. Transmission of ultrasound waves from tissues and organs can lead to physical and biological changes due to the chemical reactions. In general, medical ultrasound is applied in two fields of interest including diagnosis and therapy. In this chapter ultrasound applications in cancer therapy are explained. Then, different modes of ultrasound therapy including thermal and nonthermal applications such as hyperthermia and high intensity focused ultrasound are described. In the following, ultrasonic-activated drug delivery and related governing equations are discussed.
