Abstract

In this work, the effects of amphiphilic and other molecules with chain lengths from 2 to 8 C on K+ transport were studied; besides, several polar heads were tested. Guanidine being the most effective of these polar heads, the work was focused in the study of alkylguanidines, as well as some other guanidine derivatives. These molecules seem to be rather effective and specific inhibitors of K+ transport in yeast.
