Abstract
Aextoxicon punctatum Ruiz & Pavón, the olivillo, is a poisonous dioecious evergreen tree native to the sub-Antarctic forests of Chile and Argentina. Though introduced to cultivation during the late 1920s it has always remained rare. A tree of Aextoxicon punctatum is now fruiting at Kilmacurragh Botanic Gardens, Ireland. Details of the tree's habitat, ecology and its discovery and subsequent introduction are discussed.
