Abstract

The pattern of facial aging is hallmarked by several facets, including the loss of volume in facial fat pads and diminished skin elasticity, which can lead to deepening of the nasolabial fold and diminished anterior cheek projection in the midface and jowling, blunting of the cervicomental angle, and an indistinct inferior mandibular border in the lower third of the face. Nonsurgical approaches allow the avoidance of surgery but are often limited in their ability to provide full correction, especially if used alone. Particularly in the lower face and neck, volume restoration and skin tightening have not been able to adequately manage tissue laxity and sagging, revealing an unmet need for nonsurgical tissue redraping. Absorbable sutures have addressed this unmet need by allowing tissue redraping while stimulating collagenesis. Depending on the type of suture, aesthetic effects may be maintained for up to 2 years. This chapter provides an overview of nonsurgical lifting techniques with threads and sutures, including practical applications and guidance based on actual clinical practice.
