Abstract

In this chapter the advantages of incorporating nanofibers into filter media are discussed, looking at the historical uses of rudimentary filters and their subsequent development. Key properties of nanofibers that are useful for enhancing filter performance are described. A filter model is used to demonstrate the effects of nanofibers on capture efficiency and pressure drop for a filter. Filter media constructed with catalysts supported on ceramic nanofibers are described and experimental results for conversion of NO and CO to NO2 and CO2 are discussed.
