Abstract

This chapter surveys the conjugate addition of a range of auxiliary-containing acyl enolates, lactam; lactone; phosphonate; phosphonamides, sulfonate, and amines. This includes both simple addition and tandem addition, where accompanying alkylation, conjugate addition, aldol reaction, or reduction completes the initial conjugate addition step. Conjugate addition has more recently benefitted from enantiomeric approaches through great strides in catalyst design.
