Research Article| December 01 2021 7. /aI/-Raising on the U.S. East Coast: Resurgence, Retreat, and Resilience Natalie Schilling Natalie Schilling natalie schilling is professor of linguistics at Georgetown University. She specializes in language variation and change in American English, including ethnicity based and stylistic variation. She also conducts research, training, and case work in forensic linguistics. She is coauthor (with Walt Wolfram) of American English: Dialects and Variation (3rd ed., Blackwell, 2016); coeditor (with J. K. Chambers) of The Handbook of Language Variation and Change (2nd ed., Blackwell, 2013), and author of Sociolinguistic Fieldwork (Cambridge Univ. Press, 2013).
