Abstract

This chapter provides the fundamentals of the manufacturing process selection and the design considerations for some commonly utilized manufacturing processes. It explains the primary, secondary, and tertiary manufacturing processes and then provides some very concise and specific design guidelines for casting, forging, extrusion, metal stamping, powdered metal processing, fine-blanked parts, machined parts, screw machined parts, milling, planing/shaping, screw threads, and injection molding.
