Abstract

The role of the breast surgeon and plastic surgeon in oncoplastic breast reconstruction continues to evolve. Both are integral members of the breast cancer team and provide expertise in management. Controversy over the delineation of roles exists, and no definitive paradigm exists from a global perspective. There is significant variation from country to country as to the relationship between the two specialties. This chapter will provide a plastic surgeon’s perspective and outlook on this complex topic that will complement the chapter on the breast surgeons’ perspective.
