Abstract

This chapter describes the various methods used in the processing of biodegradable polymer nanocomposites derived from fossil fuels that are based on clays and carbon nanotubes (CNTs), with specific attention given to melt processing techniques. The correlation between the processing methods and the resulting composite structures is elucidated. Also described is the dispersion of clays and CNTs in various biodegradable polymer matrices, which are derived from fossil fuels, and the effect of several factors on this dispersion during melt processing. Challenges encountered by these nanocomposite materials are also discussed.
