Abstract

One of the applications of polymer-based composites is insulators used for high-voltage transportation. The composite materials in comparison to glasses and ceramics previously used in these insulators have some advantages. In this chapter, a full comparison between different materials for high-voltage insulators has been introduced and the different materials and manufacturing methods used for polymer-based composites have been presented. Moreover, some phenomena occurring in insulators such as corona phenomenon have been explained. During the design of these insulators, the effects of wind, snow, and the different parameters have been considered.
