PrefaceThe volume contains papers presented at the Fifth International Field Symposium «West SiberianPeatlands and Carbon Cycle: Past and Present» and the International conference «Carbon Balance of Western Siberian Mires in the Context of Climate Change» 19-29 June, 2017 Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Published papers cover diverse areas of mire study and allied disciplines. The issues of biodiversity of mire flora and fauna, problems of the mire genesis, evolution and paleoecology are considered. The carbon balance in mire ecosystems is evaluated in relation to new approaches and data, which allows understanding the nature of current climate change and making decisions basing on reliable scientific knowledge.Materials of the symposium and the conference are of interest for researchers of mire study, biogeochemistry, ecology, soil science, environmental protection, nature conservation.
