Abstract
For carburized gears, shot-peening method is widely used for improvement bending fatigue strength. But, the effect of shot-peening on tooth surface strength of carburized gears has not been clarified due to its complicated mechanism. In early report, the authors investigated the influence of the shot-peening on surface strength of roller under high contact load condition. As a result, the shot-peening deteriorates surface strength of roller. In this study, the authors investigated the influence of shot-peening under low contact load condition. As a result of experiments, surface strength of shot-peened rollers were deteriorated and mainly observed failures were micro pitting, as like high contact load conditions. Shot-peening causes increasing of surface roughness, then lubricated condition became boundary lubrication or mixed lubrication. Micro pitting was increased as the number of cycle increases. Then, the generation tendency of micro pitting relates strongly to contact condition.
