Abstract
The design of a multiport amplifier (MPA) composed of an array of high-power amplifiers (HPAs), a power divider, and a power combiner and suitable for onboard transponder application in a multibeam mobile satellite communications system is reported. Allowable gain and phase deviations for the multiple HPAs have been clarified by an analytical design method that takes account of a nonuniformity of HPA characteristics. A 2.5-GHz-band, 50-W-class experimental MPA composed of eight HPAs, whose gain deviation was within +or-0.3 dB and whose phase deviation was within +or-8 degrees , is presented. The MPA exhibits excellent performance. >
