Abstract

It has been confirmed through field experiments that land mobile satellite communications are available for rural and suburban areas through the use of a compact omnidirectional mobile antenna. Feasibility tests were performed as part of the Experimental Mobile Satellite System (EMSS) program using the Engineering Test Satellite-V (ETS-V). Further experiments on the multibeam mobile satellite communications system will be performed using ETS-VI, which is scheduled for launch in 1993. Major radio control technologies in the EMSS experiments are discussed together with the configuration and concept of the multibeam land mobile satellite communications system using ETS-VI. >
