Abstract

Over the past decades, our understanding of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) has increased enormously. A variety of strategies have been developed to improve the accessibility of therapeutics for the treatment of central nervous system diseases. Among those, receptor-mediated transportation is emerging as one of the most promising methods to facilitate brain transport of drugs. In this chapter, we briefly summarize the receptors on the BBB that can be used to mediate the transportation and discuss the pros and cons of different ligands for brain-targeted delivery.
