Abstract

In the oil and gas fields, there are many deep wells that have produced hydrocarbons for decades. Some of these wells have been abandoned by new explorations or economic problems. Before developing an oil or gas field, it is necessary to explore and drill some wells to complete geology and geophysics studies to find a reservoir that contains a large amount of hydrocarbons. However, due to the uncertainties of the previous studies, the exploration wells do not always reach a feasible reservoir. Thus the operating company, because of the environmental considerations, abandons the well abandoned. In addition to the exploration reasons, from the economic viewpoint, the large volumes of coproduced water is another issue in matured fields, which forced the company to terminate the hydrocarbon production.
