Abstract
This chapter firstly provides an overview of atmospheric plasma sources and their mode of operation. Previous authors have provided details of the individual properties of various discharge configurations. The aim in this chapter is to provide a general introduction to atmospheric plasmas followed by a particular focus on cold atmospheric plasma jet systems, which have been widely exploited. This is followed by an exemplified discussion of the use of these plasmas both for surface treatment and in coating deposition. The final section provides an overview of the plasma medicine area.
