Abstract
This chapter presents an overview of spun yarn hairiness and its reduction. First the factors influencing yarn hairiness are discussed. Then the different hairiness testing and evaluation methods are compared. The importance of yarn hairiness from spinning, weaving, knitting and fabric quality viewpoints is incorporated, and yarn hairiness modelling is discussed in brief. Finally, the manufacturing methods and systems for yarn hairiness reduction are covered in detail with special focus on compact spinning, jetring and jet-winding technologies.
