Abstract
This chapter describes methods for simulating yarn structures using three-dimensional computer graphics techniques. A mathematical model is derived, which reproduces the general microstructure of yarns and is then extended to that of fancy yarns. The chapter also introduces the current state-of-the-art methodologies in cloth simulation and modelling with reference to both computer graphics and textile communities. A 3D visualisation framework is presented, as well as simulation examples in comparison with authentic samples of yarns.
