Abstract

This chapter introduces most of the key objects in the QuickTime (QT) object library. The chapter also reviews the concept of an object model. One of the most useful concepts to come out of the object-oriented programming paradigm is that of the object model. An object model is essentially a conceptual representation of a system in terms of its constituent objects and their relationships. The QT Control object manages the opening of a QT movie and its visual presentation within the container form or window. Once a movie has been opened in the QuickTime Control, the Movie and QuickTime properties of the control becomes the gateway to the underlying objects in the hierarchy via the QT-Movie and QuickTime objects. By this stage one confidently accesses and manipulates the various collections of objects together with the individual objects themselves. QuickTime exports a movie or a track in a variety of different formats. The list of potential exporters varies depending on what type of movie or track is dealt with. Also, since QuickTime exporters exist as components in the Quick-Time architecture, it is entirely possible that additional (perhaps third-partly) exporters may, or may not, be installed.
