Abstract

Packaging serves several purposes and can consist of several layers, with different functions, depending on the product. The hygiene packaging industry is characterised by the specific requirements of the products and business, the need to keep costs low, a dependency on the supply chain, particularly packaging suppliers, and the need to manage the inevitable waste. These key characteristics of the industry positively drive the innovation strategies in this sector, leading to strong sustainability strategies, strategies and tactics to drive down costs, and consideration for design differentiation, and the use of new technology, and alternative and smart materials.
