Abstract

Rapid and accurate diagnosis is the goal of testicle imaging. In this chapter, we synthesize updates on the value of imaging in testicular disease care. We summarize updated imaging techniques, their roles in the management of testicular diseases, as well as established imaging examination protocols. As the mainstay of scrotal imaging, ultrasound is the initial screening choice for testicular and scrotal abnormalities, especially for lesion localization, because masses arising within the testis have a higher likelihood of malignancy than those occurring in extratesticular sites. Magnetic resonance imaging can serve as a diagnostic adjuvant in selected cases after ultrasound examinations. We also discuss the anatomy and pathophysiology of common scrotal diseases, their imaging features, testicular tumor staging guideline, and key elements of a structured report.
