Abstract
This chapter discusses synthesis and surface modification of ultrasmall lanthanide oxide nanoparticles. A polyol method is typically used to synthesize ultrasmall lanthanide oxide nanoparticles. The surface modification with water-soluble and the biocompatible ligand can be carried out in one-pot synthesis.
