Abstract
Experimental investigations of the boundary layer (BL) characteristics on a smooth rigid plate are carried out. A hydrodynamic stand of small turbulence was designed and manufactured, as well as various devices. The methods of experimental investigation of various problems of the transition BL are described. Coherent vortex structures (CVS) in the transition BL are experimentally investigated. Neutral linear stability curves of the laminar BL and disturbance growth curves in the BL are experimentally determined. The distribution of the disturbing motion over the thickness of the laminar BL is investigated. The physical process of the laminar-turbulent transition of the BL is described. A photograph of the fabricated model of CVS, which are formed at the stages of the transition of the laminar BL to turbulent, is presented. A diagram of the development of the CVS in the BL of a rigid smooth plate at all stages of the transition, including the turbulent BL, is given. The results of measuring the structure of the BL of a rigid plate at the beginning of turbulence are presented, performed using the developed and manufactured equipment of a laser Doppler speed meter. An analogy of the BL as an inhomogeneous asymmetric wave-guide is given. The main provisions of the receptivity of the BL to external disturbances are considered. Relevant photographs and results receptivity measurements are shown.
