Abstract

This chapter highlights the role of the Responsbible Person conforming to safety standards. Someone within a company is entrusted to signing a Manufacturer's Declaration of Conformity or Incorporation and, in law, is known as the Responsible Person. This individual accepts personal liability for the products that he/she authorizes for CE Marking, and he/she can be pursued in criminal law. The Responsible Person must have sufficient authority, knowledge, and training to carry out his/her tasks adequately. The Responsible Person is a key guardian of one's business and needs to be a high-caliber individual who is not swayed by pressure. If the safety of a product is affected by changes in design or the manufacturing process, then those must be corrected, and shipments may be suspended until the product is compliant. Most important of all—any production lost is not the fault of the Responsible Person; they are merely identifying a potential problem.
