Abstract

A considerable discharge of hazardous substances especially dyes and heavy metal ions into the environmental territory has become a major concern as many people disregard the proper protocols of wastewater management. A huge discharge of contaminants resulting from a number of anthropogenic activities may pose an enormous confront to living organisms and its negative impact affect the stability of the ecosystem. This chapter summarizes the applications of magnetic nanocomposites of iron oxide for the removal of dyes and heavy metals from wastewater. In this section, the synthesis and application of these magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for the removal of various dyes and heavy metals have been discussed. The effect of various parameters such as pH, adsorbent dosage, contaminants concentration, temperature, and contact time are also summarized to identify the best condition for effective pollutant removal. Although the functionalization of magnetic iron oxide and its application for wastewater treatment are mentioned. The isotherm, kinetic and adsorption capacity are also mentioned.
