Abstract

The biosynthesis of penicillin is strongly repressed by glucose Glucose represses (but does not inhibit) the incorporation of (14C)-valine into penicillin. Non-metabolizable glucose analogues do not exert carbon catabolite regulation. The effect is however exerted by 2-deoxyglucose. Glucose repression of penicillin biosynthesis is not reverted by cyclic-AMP.
