Abstract
This chapter discusses the fabrication and hologram construction of photorefractive fibers. The use of photorefractive (PR) materials for data processing and storage has offered promising applications in data storage and signal processing. The salient features of PR materials are large storage capacity, high diffraction efficiency, and high angular wavelength selectivity. The growth of PR fibers has also provided an alternative approach to a variety of applications. Some recent work on PR fiber holograms is discussed in the chapter, in which the fabrication, angular and wavelength selectivity, cross-talk noise, and a couple of applications are given. There are many promising applications of PR fiber holograms: applied to optical interconnects, electro-optic switching, reconfigurable networks, and many others.
