Abstract

Cerebral seizures and epilepsies often occur in clients with developmental disorders and disabilities. This can be due to different organic and metabolic disorders, but most often it is due to genetic anomalies, e.g. changes of the ion-channels in the neuron membrane. Electrophysiology, especially EEG and cerebral imaging, are the most important diagnostic tools. Therapy consists of not only medication, but also providing information on the disorder, guidance on nutrition and changes to lifestyle to minimize the likelihood of episodes.
