Abstract
Within the last 15–20 years, wind power has on a global scale developed incredibly fast. In 1990, total installed capacity of wind power in the world amounted to approximately 2GW – by end 2009, this capacity has increased to 158GW equaling an annual growth rate of almost 25%. For a long period, Europe was dominating the wind power scene with Germany, and Spain unrivaled in wind power expansion, but in recent years, countries outside Europe have moved fast, especially the United States and China. This chapter describes market development for wind power addressing key drivers and new trends in the development.
