Abstract

The adoption and implementation of new technologies in surgical practice are growing at an exponential rate. Traditional models of training have given way to new approaches that focus on balancing growing healthcare demands and duty hour restrictions with innovations such as simulation. In this chapter, we will review elements of a successful robotic surgical curriculum for the purposes of resident training. We will also review common strategies for skills assessment, simulation training, and intraoperative assessment. Additionally, we will highlight common barriers to robotic surgical training in a residency setting.
