Abstract

This chapter includes a small part of introduction on jute fibres. Thereafter a brief introduction was given on physical and chemical structure and properties of jute fibre. The chemical nature including its functionality and its inter-unit linkages are described for understanding of the composite and multifunctional nature of jute fibres mainly composed off cellulose, hemi-cellulose and lignin besides some minor constituents. Effect of acid, alkali, oxidizing agent and reducing agent are also discussed along with its moisture absorption and dye absorption property.
